Baptism

Our Lord makes it clear that Baptism is necessary for salvation (John 3:5). Faithful to this commandment, the Church welcomes individuals into communion with Christ through Baptism. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God. The newly Baptised person assumes the responsibility of living a holy life and, particularly in the case of an infant, this will require the support of other members of the Christian Community.

Baptism Dates and Arrangements

Congratulations on the birth of your child! If you wish to arrange for your baby’s Baptism, please contact the Parish Office at least two weeks before your preferred/proposed date. You will need to complete an application form and include a copy of your child’s birth certificate.

For Baptism of older children and adults, please contact the Parish Office or the Parish Administrator. Please see http://litmus.dublindiocese.ie/category/rcia/ for more information on Adult Baptism.

Time for celebration and Joy!

Your baby’s baptism is a time for celebration and joy. And, naturally, you want the best for your baby. We want to help you plan and prepare for the baptism in the best possible way.

Baptism Preparation Meetings

Parents are requested to attend a Baptism Preparation meeting. These meetings are conducted by one of the parish’s Baptismal Team members. During the meeting the Sacrament of Baptism as well as practicalities around the ceremony are discussed and outlined. Godparents are very welcome to attend.

After the Baptism Ceremony

As your child grows it is important to pray with them, share some bible stories, visit the Church to light a candle for someone who is sick, and attend Mass.
We pray God’s Blessing upon you in the challenge ahead of bringing up your child in the faith.

Registration of Baptism

The parish records the baptism of your child in the Baptismal Register of the parish. This record includes the full names of the child, parents and godparents, the child’s date of birth, the date of the baptism and the name of the officiating priest or deacon. A Certificate of Baptism can be issued by the Parish Office as and when required.
